WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball season kicked off this afternoon as the Sailfish played two matches against Florida Southern at the Rinker Athletic Campus. After their 10-2, 2020 season was cut short, the Sailfish picked up right where they left off by sweeping Florida Southern in both matches.
Match 1: PBA 5, FSC 0
The Sailfish picked up their first win of the season in decisive fashion as they won each matchup in two sets.
Gabriella Aziz and freshman
Julia Golichowski teamed up in the No. 4 position and earned the first point for the 'Fish winning 21-14, 21-9. The duo tandem of
Sydney Wagner and
Jessica Nodell finished second as they were victorious at position No. 5, 21-17, 21-9. The top three teams for the Sailfish took the court started by
Emma Pieper and
Olivia Finckel who two-set victory claimed the overall match for PBA. Last year's No. 2 team of
Jazz Schmidt and
Lunden Evans stayed together as a duo and now playing in the No. 1 position came out on top 21-17, 21-14.
Abby DeVido and
Lyndzey Minter in the No. 2 position finished off the clean sweep against the Mocs 21-18, 21-15.
Match 2: PBA 5, FSC 0Â
In the second match of the day, the Sailfish mixed up their lineups but the tandem of Scmidt and Evans stayed together at the No. 1 position and rolled to a comfortable 21-13, 21-12 victory. Aziz and Minter paired up at the No. 3 position in the second match and went on to win both sets 21-10. The position No. 4 team of Golichowski and Pieper and position No. 5 team of Wagner and Kettner each won comfortably in two sets in both of their matches to clinch the victory for PBA once again. The final match of the day was the most competitive match as
Abby DeVido and
Olivia Finckel won at position No. 2 as each set went extra points 29-27, 22-24, 20-18.Â
The Sailfish impressed in their debut and they will look to keep their winning ways alive on March 10 when they face off against Saint Leo and Webber International in Babson Park, Fla.    Â
