Sailfish Sweep Trimatch Over Tritons and Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team got back on track by winning both of their matches today hosted by Florida Southern. The Sailfish started off the day by defeating Eckerd 4-1 and followed that up with a perfect 5-0 victory against the Mocs. The two wins take the Sailfish record to 6-4 on the year.

Match 1: PBA 4, Eckerd 1

The Sailfish faced off with the Tritons for the first time this season and they were put out in front by their No. 2 team of Lyndzey Minter and Abby DeVido. The tandem rolled in the first set 21-11 before taking the tightly contested second 23-21. The Sailfish doubled their lead in the match as Julia Golichowski and Gabriella Aziz pulled out a three-set victory at the No. 4 position as they won 21-15, 18-21, 15-8. The Sailfish clinched the match when their No. 1 duo of Jazz Schmidt and Lunden Evans looked dominant in their matchup, winning in straight sets 21-7 and 21-9. The Tritons got on the board as they took the No. 5 position match as PBA's Jessica Nodell and Sydney Wagner lost in straight sets 21-15 and 21-18. The duo of Olivia Finckel and Emma Pieper closed the match with a win for the 'Fish at the No. 3 position. The duo pulled out a close three-set match 21-14, 18-21, 16-14 to give the Sailfish a 4-1 victory. In the extra match, Abigail Mason and Karla Cantero won in straight sets 21-13, 21-17.

Match 2: PBA 5, Florida Southern 0

The Sailfish and the Mocs squared off for the third time this season and the Sailfish have come out on top 5-0 in every meeting between the two sides. Minter and Devido starting the Sailfish off once again with a two-set victory at the No. 2 position 21-13, 27-25. The tandem now carries a 7-2 record as pair at the No. 2 spot this season for the Sailfish. Golichowski and Aziz earned the next PBA victory as they won a three-set match 21-13, 14-21, 15-9 to take their season record to 5-4. PBA's No. 1 team of Schmidt and Evans continued their success as a duo the last two years with a two-set win that takes them to 8-2 on the season. Finckel and Pieper captured a straight-set win 21-18, 21-11 as they now carry a 4-5 record as a duo at No. 3. Nodell and Wagner bounced back from the opening match as they pulled out a close three-setter 21-12, 18-21, 15-13. The No. 5 team is now 4-5 together on the year. Kylee Whiteleather and Emma Vann teamed up in the extra match and won after dropping the first set 17-21, 21-12, 15-10. 

It was a solid two wins for the Sailfish to get their record back over .500. Up next, the Sailfish will be tested against big competition once again as they will face North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Tampa, and Florida Atlantic on April 2-3 in Boca Raton.
