BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team played their second tournament of the year this afternoon against Saint Leo and Webber International. Match 1: PBA 3, Saint Leo 2

The Sailfish played a close match against the Lions but came out on top to start the tri-match. The No. 5 tandem of Jessica Nodell and Sydney Wagner split the first two sets, 21-13 and 20-22, before pulling out a third set win 15-7. Gabriella Aziz and Julia Golichowski we victorious at the No. 4 position in straight sets 21-16, 21-13. With the first set of players completed, the Sailfish needed one more win to claim the match, and the No. 1 team of Jazz Schmidt and Lunden Evans pulled out an extended first set over the Lions 29-27 before carrying that momentum to a second set win 21-9 to claim the win. The duo tandem of Lyndzey Minter and Abby DeVido suffered their first setback of the year as they fell in the No. 2 match in straight sets 21-17, 21-17. Match 2: PBA 5, Webber 0

The Sailfish went into their afternoon match with the same team tandems that they had in their win against the Lions. The No. 1 position of Schmidt and Evans looked dominant as they won a two-set match 21-9, 21-5. The No. 2 and No. 3 positions bounced back from their morning defeats as, Minter and DeVido won both of their sets 21-13 and Pieper and Finckel won 21-14, 21-12. The No. 4 position matchup with Aziz and Golichowksi was the most competitive match against the Warriors but they prevailed in three sets after dropping the first, 20-22, 21-15, 15-1. Nodell and Wagner finished off the clean sweep for the 'Fish winning, 21-15, 21-19.

After winning the first two tri-match tournaments of their season, the Sailfish competition level will increase as they head to Miami to face Florida Gulf Coast and No. 13 ranked FIU on March 13.
