Sailfish Close Out Battle at the Bay With Two Wins

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team closed out play at the Eckerd Battle of the Bay by defeating Jacksonville and UT-Martin each by the score of 4-1. The Sailfish finish the weekend 3-1 in the tournament and move their overall record to 8-1 on the season.

Match 1: PBA 4, Jacksonville 1
The Sailfish opened play this afternoon by defeating the Dolphins by a score of 4-1. Jessica Nodell and Emma Pieper started the Sailfish run by dominating their No. 5 doubles match 21-10, 21-11. Gabriella Aziz and Kayleigh Hall rolled as well in straight sets winning 21-14, 21-10 while Lyndzey Minter and Sydney Wagner clinched the match by winning 21-10, 21-12 at No. 3 doubles. Jazz Schmidt and Lunden Evans took the Sailfish lead to 4-0 winning easily 21-7, 21-13 at their No. 2 position. The Dolphins got on the board by winning No. 1 singles against Coleen Sieng and Ally Bottenfield 15-21, 24-22, 15-8. 

Match 2: PBA 4, UT-Martin 1 
The 'Fish closed out their tournament against the Skyhawks and pulled out a 4-1 victory. The tandem of Nodell and Pieper edged out a three-set victory winning 21-18, 11-21, 15-12 to give PBA the early lead in the match. Aziz and Hall were able to pull out a three-set victory as well, 12-21, 21-19, 15-10, to give the Sailfish a 2-0 lead and win both of their matches on the day. UT-Martin got back in the match by defeating the duo of Minter and Wagner in two close sets, 22-20, 21-15, but Bottenfield and Sieng in the No. 2 doubles position closed out the Skyhawks 21-17, 21-7. Schmidt and Evans got the victory playing up at the No. 1 position 21-15, 21-18 to secure the 4-1 PBA victory. 

The Sailfish are next in action on March 10 when they travel to play at Florida International. The Panthers will go into the game holding a 7-1 record.
