Sailfish Capture Weekend Series Win Against Bucs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball split the Saturday double header against Barry to wrap up the weekend series. The Sailfish (18-17) lost the final game to the Bucs (22-12) in the late innings but still managed a series win on the weekend after winning Friday night.

Game 1: Palm Beach Atlantic 9, Barry 3

The Sailfish got on the board early and often as they scored their first run of the game in the second inning when Riley Herold grounded out to first that allowed Brandon Seltzer to score. PBA scored again in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Sean Houck put the score at 2-0.

The Sailfish found their power stroke after that as Connor Rowland when deep in the fourth. Seltzer hit his second homer of the series in the fifth. It was a three run home run that scored Danny Tufariello and Houck to put the score at 6-0.

In the sixth Marcos Perez and Ramon Machado hit back-to-back home runs to push the score to 8-0. The Sailfish tacked on their ninth run in the eighth to make the score 9-3 where it would finish for the game.

Christian Denton once again threw well pitching six innings giving up four hits and no runs while striking out six. Denton picked up his third win of the year to put his record at 3-3.

The 'Fish had 11 hits in the ballgame with Seltzer, Rowland, and Machado notched two hits apiece. Seltzer also had three RBI and Houck had two.

Game 2: Palm Beach Atlantic, Barry

The Bucs were first on the board as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead. From there senior pitcher Lance Fry settled down after that to throw 5.0 innings giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out three.

In the top of the fifth the Sailfish knotted the score at 2-2 as Tufariello hit a home run over the left field fence scoring Houck and himself.

In the top of the sixth Derek Schwimer singled through the left side allowing Brandon Smith to score and put the Sailfish up 3-2. But the Bucs would get the run back in the bottom of the sixth on a single to tie things up at 3-3.

The Bucs took the lead for good on a two-run homer in the eighth to give them a 5-3 victory in the final game of the series.

The Sailfish once again had double digit hits with Tufariello leading the way with three hits. Smith and Houck had two hits each as well.

The Sailfish return to action next Friday April 12 as they host No. 2 Tampa at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park with first pitched scheduled for 6 p.m.
