WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball defeated No. 7 University of Tampa on Friday night to open the weekend conference series. The Sailfish (19-17) were able to score early before the Spartans (25-11) tied things up but 'Fish had a big inning in the sixth that would put them in the driver's seat to cruise to a 7-4 victory.
Mitchell Carroll was once again dominate on the hill as he pitched six innings allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three. Carroll's performance earned him his sixth win of the year putting his record at 6-2.
In the final three innings the Sailfish turned to the trusted bullpen arm of Orsen Josephina. Josephina threw three innings allowing only two hits and one run while striking out three and also picked up his sixth save of the season.
On the offensive side the Sailfish gathered nine hits on the night with Ramon Machado leading the way with three hits and Derek Schwimer and Brandon Seltzer each having two hits apiece.
The Sailfish scored in the first with a Seltzer double down the line that allowed Sean Houck to score. The 'Fish added to the score in the bottom of the second on a single to right field from Machado and a single from Schwimer to put the score at 3-0.
PBA added one more run in fourth on a double by Schwimer before pushing across three runs on a Spartan miscue with bases loaded putting the score at 7-3. The Spartans got one run back to put the final score 7-4 in favor of the Sailfish.
The Sailfish will continue the series with the Spartans tomorrow April 13 with a double header starting at noon at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
