ST. LEO, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball won the opening game of the weekend series against Saint Leo on Friday night. The Sailfish (16-13) gave up only one hit and shutout the Lions (14-14) to pick up the win 2-0.
Mitchell Carroll had a great day on the mound as he threw 117 pitches on Friday night. Carroll did not allow a run in his seven innings of work and only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four and getting out 21 of the 23 batters he faced. He picked up his fifth win to move to 5-2 on the year.
After Carroll, Orsen Josephina took the mound and picked up where Carroll left off as he dominated the Lions giving up no hits. In his two innings of work Josephina struck out six and allowed one walk to pick up his fourth save on the year.
The Sailfish scored their first run on a single through the right side off the bat of Riley Herold. The hit allowed Derek Schwimer to score from third. The other Sailfish run on the night happened on a Brandon Smith single through the left side that brought home Connor Rowland.
The Sailfish rounded up eight hits on the night with Schwimer and Rowland having two hits apiece. Rowland and Sean Houck had the two doubles on the night.
The Sailfish will continue the series Saturday Mar. 30 with a double header against the Lions starting at 1 pm.
