DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped the opening game of the series against University of North Georgia by a score of 3-1. The Sailfish (2-3) had 10 hits but could not convert as the Nighthawks (4-0) used two solo home runs to propel their way to victory on a cold Friday night in Dahlonega.
The Sailfish got on the board first when Danny Tufariello knocked in Brandon Smith for the first run of the game. The Nighthawks were quick to answer back in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run from Bill LeRoy after Mitchell Carroll(Loss, 1-1) threw three innings of one hit baseball.
North Georgia would break the tie on another solo shot this time from Nick Clarno. Carroll would get out of the inning but that would be it for him on the night as he went seven innings giving up five hits and two runs. Carroll collected six strikeouts and did not yield a walk in his performance.
The Sailfish threatened to tie the game when Brandon Seltzer got a base knock to right in the eighth but PBA could not push him across.
The Nighthawks were able to add one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth but would not need it as the Sailfish went down in order in the top of the ninth. Relief pitcher Parker Morrison who picked up his third save of the year.
Seltzer had three hits on the night for the Sailfish while Smith had two. Marcos Perez, Derek Schwimer, Riley Herold, Tufariello, and Sean Houck all had one hit in the game as well.
PBA will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. as they will continue the three-game set against North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga.
