Sailfish Drop Both Games of the Doubleheader

Dahlonega, Ga. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball couldn't pick up a win on the weekend as the potent North Georgia (6-0) offense was too much for the Sailfish (2-5) in both games of the Saturday twin bill.

Game One: Palm Beach Atlantic 0, North Georgia 4

The Nighthawks once again got on the board early with the long ball as Chase Sudduth took one out to left center in the bottom of the first. North Georgia went on to add another run in the bottom of the second on a single to left field.

Christian Denton(L, 0-1) settled down after the second inning and went on to throw three consecutive shutout innings. In the sixth, a PBA error allowed a runner to reach base with two outs. The Nighthawks then capitalized on the mistake hitting a two run homer in the following at bat that would end Denton's day on the mound. Tyler Hawks was brought in and closed out the inning for the 'Fish.

Riley Herold and Sean Houck both collected two hits in the game. Brandon Seltzer, Connor Rowland, Derek Schwimer, and Marcos Perez each had one.

Game Two: Palm Beach Atlantic 7, North Georgia 8

The Sailfish had early opportunities as they put runners in scoring position in the first two innings but could not push them across. In the bottom of the second back-to-back Nighthawk doubles put North Georgia on the board. A sacrifice fly for the Nighthawks would give them their second run of the inning.

The Nighthawks would tack on two more with a two-run homer to left center.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored their first run of the day when Marcos Perez singled to left field in the top of the fourth to knock in Brandon Smith who singled earlier in the inning. North Georgia answered back in the bottom of the fifth with another two-run home run to right field.

Mike Santaromita had the first extra base hit of the series for the Sailfish in the sixth innings as he sent a moon shot over the right field wall with bases loaded to put the score at 6-5 in favor of North Georgia. The Nighthawks pushed the lead to two runs on a solo home run in the seventh.

PBA would go on to tie the game in the top of the eighth when Andreas Papageorge turned on an inside pitch and sent it over the left field foul pole to knot the game 8-8. It was all for not when the leadoff man for the Nighthawks hit their fourth home run of the game over the right field wall in the bottom of the eighth for the go ahead run and game winner.

PBA collected 11 hits in the game and drew three walks. Papageorge led the 'Fish with three hits in the game while Brandon Seltzer, Smith, and Derek Schwimer all had two hits.

The Sailfish return to action Feb. 13 as they host Lynn University at Roger Dean Stadium Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
