WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team had a strong showing at the College Tennis Clay Court Championships this past weekend.
The men's singles Golden Draw was dominated by the Sailfish.
Roberto Binaghi,
Rodolfo Hasegawa,
Philipp Hoffmann and
Umberto Rosi all cruised through the bracket to make it an all-PBA semifinal. Binaghi defeated Hasegawa 6-1, ret., and Rosi overcame Hoffmann 6-2, ret., to set up the championship round. It was Rosi who emerged as champion after beating Binaghi 6-7 (8), 7-5, 10-6.
PBA also excelled in doubles competition. The team of
Jorge Santamaria and Hoffmann earned a spot in the semifinals by defeating Felipe Barbosa and Tyler Glowaki from Southeastern, 6-3. They faced Rosi and Binaghi who were coming off a 6-3 of their own over Florida National. The top-seeded Santamaria and Hoffmann defeated Rosi and Binaghi 7-5 to advance to the championship round. Hasegawa and
Erik Carlsten also advanced to the semifinals after an 8-6 win in the quarterfinals. The duo advanced to the finals after defeated Florida National's Geronimo Vivero and Vadim Rebaud. In the finals, Santamaria and Hoffman won a hard-fought match over Hasegawa and Carlsten 6-4.
The Sailfish will play its last tournament of the fall on Nov. 15 at the Barry Bucs Invitational in Miami Shores, Fla.
