WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team competed in the Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College this weekend.
In doubles competition,
Estefani Fernandez teamed with Rollins' Natalia Collado Cordon in flight B, winning a match against the Tars' Paula Collado Cordon and Valentina Serino 8-5 to earn a spot in the championship match. Unfortunately for the duo, the lost to Rollins' Marie Debruyn and Kaitlynn Groves 8-2 to take second place.
Verena Weindl and
Yuliia Russu earned sixth place in flight A.
In the singles brackets, Russu picked up a 6-4, 0-6, 10-7, win over Florida Southern's Laura Vetter. Russu came up short in her next two matches to finish in fourth place in flight A.
Consuela Van Grinsven and Fernandez also earned fourth place finishes of their own. Weindl finished fifth, losing three matches in flight B.
PBA will compete at the College Clay Court Championships in Winter Haven, Fla. next weekend.
