LAKELAND, Fla. – Pietro de Silva and Rodolfo Hasegawa led the way in doubles for the Sailfish this past weekend as the Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team competed in the ITA South Region Tournament, hosted by Florida Southern.
The Sailfish brought four players to the tournament: de Silva, Hasegawa, Philipp Hoffmann and Carlos Niemeyer.
Silva/Hasegawa won their first match of the tournament 8-6 over AUM's Veglia/Garcia. The duo continued their run by defeating Florida Southern's Cvjetan/Nagoshi (8-6) before falling in the quarterfinals to West Florida's Bojadjiev/Sanchez in a contentious 9-8 loss.
The other Sailfish double pairing of Hoffman/Niemeyer won their opening match 8-2 over Montevallo's Del Val/David, but fell 8-5 to Oritz Couder/Donayre from Embry-Riddle in the following round.
Hoffman was the lone Sailfish to win in the singles main draw, defeating Rollins' Guilhermo Nicolas in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 10-8). Hoffman fell 6-2, 6-0 to Blake Bayldon from Barry in the second round.
De Silva bounced back from a 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 opening loss to Lynn's Lucca Baptista in the consolation bracket. After a walkover in the first round, de Silva won his next match 6-1, 6-2 over Timon Louisy from Florida Tech. De Silva lost in his quarterfinal match against Montevallo's Daniel Del Val in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 10-5).
Men's tennis will next play Southeastern in a scrimmage match on Oct. 5th.
