WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Senior Pietro de Silva recorded a first-place finish as Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis opened the fall season at the Sailfish Invitational last weekend. Five 'Fish recorded top-three finishes in the singles bracket.
Rodolfo Hasegawa and Pietro de Silva fought hard in the No. 1 doubles flight, defeating Faletto/Mensour 8-5 before losing 8-1 to Versier/Guitierrez. The duo recorded third-place after a 8-6 victory over Baptista/Hocevar.
De Silva dominated in singles play. The senior defeated Barry's Martin Guitierrez 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 and overcame a first set loss to defeat Florida Southern's Victor Aleck 6-7, 6-4, 10-8. De Silva defeated Barry's Filip Zupanic 6-4, 6-4 to secure first-place in the No. 4 singles bracket.
Stanislav Feofilov placed second in the No. 5 singles flight after falling to Cody Gubin of Rollins 6-2, 6-1. Carlos Niemeyer won third-place in the same bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over ASA's Jesus Perez-Plaza.
Philipp Hoffman finished third in the No. 2 singles bracket with a walkover in his final match. Hoffman won his opening match against Rollins' Guy Feign 6-4, 6-1 and lost the semifinal match to Barry's Daniel Ventura 6-1, 6-0.
Thomas Salmon secured the final third-place finish for the 'Fish in the No. 6 singles bracket. Salmon defeated Adam Johansson of Lynn 7-6 (5), 6-1 before losing in three sets to Miroslav Cvjetan of Florida Southern 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Salmon defeated Florida Southern's Danny Thomas in the third-place match 6-1, 6-2.
PBA travels to Lakeland, Fla. this weekend for the ITA South Regional.
