WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball closed out their 2018 season with a three-game sweep of Lynn University, as the Sailfish won Sunday's finale 14-8 in a long game including a rain delay. The Sailfish finish their first season in the Sunshine State Conference 26-24 overall and 14-16 in SSC play.
The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead as Danny Tufariello hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Jake Summey. The Fighting Knights tied the game in the second with a solo home run.
The bottom of the second is where the Sailfish really did their damage, as Eddie Vicinanza tripled with two outs to plate Kyle Simon. Catcher Marcos Perez followed with an RBI single, and Summey then struck with an RBI double to left. Connor Rowland then blasted a two-run homer over the batters eye in center, giving the 'Fish a 6-1 lead. After a Ryan Johnson RBI double later in the inning, there was a one hour rain delay. The 'Fish picked up right where they left off however as Hakeem Rhodes lined a single to center field to make the score 8-1 right after the delay ended.
The Sailfish put the game out of reach in the third inning, as Perez, Summey, Johnson, and Rhodes all added RBI hits in the frame to make the score 13-3.
Both teams used a lot of pitchers following the rain delay, as the Sailfish first turned to seniors Sean Horner (Win, 2-4) and Kevin Fry who then yielded way to Blake Beyel, Eli Bottenfield, Justin Hernandez, Tyler Hawks, and Orsen Josephina who all pitched an inning in the season finale.
PBA ended the game with 15 hits while Lynn tallied 13 on Sunday. Seniors Rhodes and Vicinanza led the way with three hits each, and Summey, Johnson, and Perez added two hits each in the game.
