Sailfish Split Doubleheader With No. 2 Ranked Moccasins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball split a doubleheader with No. 2 Florida Southern on Friday, as the Moccasins won the opener 10-1 and the Sailfish bounced back to win the second game by a 7-4 score.  The Sailfish now sit at 22-21 on the season as Florida Southern is now 33-5-1.

Game One: No. 2 Florida Southern 10, PBA 1

Florida Southern used two big innings to get a lead and pull away from PBA in the series opener, as the Mocs scored four runs in the first and fifth innings off Sailfish starter Mikhail Cazenave (Loss, 9-6).

After the Mocs scored four runs in the first inning, Kyle Simon and Connor Rowland doubled in the second inning to cut the Mocs lead to 4-1.

Unfortunately for the Sailfish, that was all the offense could muster in the opening game, as the 'Fish finished with one run on five hits.

Four of the five Sailfish hits in the game were doubles, as Mike Santaromita and Danny Tufariello added doubles in the game.

The Mocs hit four doubles and two homers in the opener, winning by the 10-1 final score.

Game Two: PBA 7, No. 2 Florida Southern 4

Jacob Teter hit a solo home run in the second inning off Sailfish starting pitcher Mitchell Carroll in the second game of the day, giving the Mocs an early 1-0 lead.

The Sailfish answered back however, as Tufariello tied the game at one in the third inning with an RBI groundout.

The Sailfish took the lead in the third inning, as a throwing error by the Moccasins led to the 'Fish scoring a run, and Jake Summey singled to center field with two outs, driving in Eddie Vicinanza and extending the lead to 3-1.

Carroll (Win, 3-1) put up zero after zero on the scoreboard, as he only allowed one hit through six innings of work.

Sean Houck delivered a huge two-out two-run double in the sixth inning, as he hit a J.T. Hintzen pitch to left field, scoring Summey and Santaromita.

The Mocs had an answer of their own, as they knocked Carroll out of the game in the seventh, and proceeded to score three runs in the inning to make the score 5-4.

Carroll turned in the best start of his career on Saturday, throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just two runs and two hits in the game while walking just one Moccasin hitter.

The 'Fish added big insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings, as Rowland and Simon came up with RBI singles.

Johnnie Schneider recorded the final four outs of the game to pick up his third save of the season.

Summey, Houck, and Simon all finished with two hits in the game to lead the charge at the plate for the 'Fish.

The Sailfish and Mocs will play the rubber-game of the series tomorrow at noon at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
