WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped the series finale with No. 2 ranked Florida Southern on Saturday, as the Mocs won by a 7-3 final at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park. The Sailfish fall back to .500 with the loss and now sit 22-22 on the season with six games remaining. Florida Southern improves to 34-5-1 on the year with the win.
The Mocs struck first in Saturday's rubber game, as Hayden Marze hit a two-strike, two-out double to left field in the second inning which plated two runs and gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead. The Mocs added runs in the third and fifth innings as the Sailfish fell victim to several well-placed softly-hit singles.
The Sailfish cut the FSC lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning as Mike Santaromita hit a ball just out of reach of Logan Browning, scoring two runs for the 'Fish.
The Mocs extended their lead in the sixth inning, as Jacob Teter led off with a solo home run to right field.
Sloppy play by the Sailfish led to two more Moccasin runs in the eighth inning, as the Mocs opened up a 7-2 lead.
The 'Fish got one run back in the ninth, but that was all the offense could do as the 'Fish lost 7-3 while collecting just seven hits.
Eddie Vicinanza was the only Sailfish hitter with multiple hits in the game, as the senior finished 2-for-4 and scored a run, while also making a couple of outstanding plays defensively.
Lance Fry fell to 2-3 on the season with the loss, as the junior pitched into the sixth inning, allowing five runs on 10 hits. Orsen Josephina finished the game on the mound for the 'Fish, tossing 3.1 innings of two-hit baseball and allowing two runs (one earned).
The Sailfish will be in action again on Thursday, April 26 at 6 p.m. as they will take on Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla. to open up a three-game series with the Panthers.
