PENSACOLA, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped their final game of the Argo Invitational on Sunday, falling to the No. 2/5 ranked Tampa Spartans by a 2-1 final score. The Sailfish complete a 3-1 week of play, and now sit 6-5 on the young season. The 'Fish won two of their three games this weekend at Jim Spooner Field.
Sunday's matinee start was a pitching duel, as Mikhail Cazenave and Keven Pimentel were cruising through the batting orders early. Neither team got anything going until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Cole Perry singled to left-field, driving in two Spartan runs.
That was all Cazenave allowed on the day however, as the senior tossed 7.1 innings against the defending Sunshine State Conference Champions, scattering eight hits and allowing just the two runs. Cazenave struck out five batters and walked just one.
Pimentel matched Cazenave and then some however, as he completed seven innings on Sunday, striking out eight batters and allowing just four hits. The only blemish in Pimentel's start was a two-out sixth inning solo-homer by slugger Kyle Simon. The home run is Simon's third of the weekend and sixth of the season to date.
The Sailfish were able to get Riley Herold to third base in the ninth inning, but Clay Helvey slammed the door to pick up his first save of the season.
The Sailfish will now begin the SSC portion of their schedule, as they will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. next weekend for a weekend series with Eckerd College. The series will begin Friday, Sept. 23 with a 6 p.m. start.
