MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis closed out the regular season over the weekend in a rain-shortened tournament hosted by Barry University.
The Sailfish took both doubles flights with Laura Andersen and Taylor Conti taking the title in the top flight. The duo defeating Ricardo and Mills from Southeastern University 8-3 in the first match before getting a victory over Madejewsja and Cerinni from Barry who retired. In the finals Andersen and Conti took down Khamassi and Wardenburg from ASA College 8-5.
In the second doubles flight it was Michaela Mignemi and Romina Bolagay who came away with the title, defeating Dona and Brackens from Southeastern 8-0, Barboza and Sandoval from ASA 8-5 and Yeardley and Gasse from Nova Southeastern 8-4 along the way.
Isabella Mermersky and Johanna Kern picked up three wins in the top doubles flight en route to a third place finish after losing their opening match to eventual runners-up Khamassi and Wardenburg from ASA. Mermersky and Kern only dropped one game through the consolation rounds before moving into the third-place match where they defeated Djordjevic and Ivanovic from Nova Southeastern, 8-4.
Singles play was shortened due to rain with no player getting more than two matches. Nicole Reich was the lone Sailfish to pick up two wins over the weekend with Carolina Wakiyama, Estefani Fernandez and Andersen all winning their lone singles match.
The Sailfish will open up the championship segment of their season in February with a full match schedule to be released at a later date.
