WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team hosted their first fall tournament this past weekend as five teams competed in the Sailfish Men's Tennis Invitational at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The event was broken into three doubles flights and five singles flights with action taking place on Saturday and Sunday. The Sailfish captured two of the three doubles competitions as well as No. 5 singles.
Carlos Meneses was the winner of the No. 5 singles flight, defeating teammate Miguel Paz 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 in the final. Meneses was a straight sets winner in both of his previous two matchups, both against competitors from Webber International. Paz also won his two matches prior to the final in straight sets. Meneses and Paz were also winners of No. 3 doubles, winning the round robin format with a 3-0 record.
Philipp Hoffmann and
Carlos Niemeyer took the No. 2 doubles crown with an 8-2 victory over Michel Louis-Nils and Adriel Azucey from Eastern Florida State in the final. Hoffmann and Niemeyer didn't drop a set in their opening match before being pushed, 8-6, in their semifinal match against Victor Ravier and Martin Gutierrez from Barry.
The Sailfish also took third place three times as Niemeyer (No. 4 singles) and Hoffmann (No. 2 singles) were able to do so as individuals. In doubles
Pato Zarazua and
Thomas Salmon were able to take third at No. 1.
PBA will travel down to Miami Shores this coming weekend to take part in the Barry Bucs Invitational that begins on Saturday.
