ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Sailfish volleyball team concluded their season-opening tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday afternoon as they took down Central Washington University by a 3-1 score. PBA wrapped up a solid first showing of the season by going 2-1 in the tournament that featured three elite opponents.

Saturday’s midday showdown versus CWU featured another matchup of NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago as the Wildcats are coming off a 19-8 season and a trip to the West Regional Tournament.

Unlike their two matches on Friday the Sailfish wasted little time to get their offense moving in the right direction as they rode a .308 team hitting percentage to claim a 25-13 first set victory.

Not to be outdone the ‘Cats rebounded nicely in the second set with a 25-21 win of their own to knot the score at one set apiece behind their own strong hitting performance of a .205 team hitting percentage.

From there the Sailfish would regroup and put together back-to-back solid efforts as they closed out the match with set victories of 25-21 and 25-20.

PBA produced a balanced effort throughout their roster as 12 players saw court time while five reached double-figures in kills. Sophomore Sarah Ragland led the way with 14 kills (.308 hitting percentage) followed closely by Ally Rohn with 13 kills.

Senior Stephany Brown gave the team a big lift from her right-side position as she added in 11 kills on just 20 attacks and only one error. Emma Ballantyne and Faith Rohn rounded out the double-digit kill producers with 10 kills each.

Ally Rohn and Alexandra Roberts once again split the setting duties with Rohn nearly producing her second triple-double of the tournament by adding in 26 assists and eight digs to go with her 13 kills. Roberts finished with 26 helpers.

Defensively Palm Beach Atlantic saw another busy match for their senior libero in Rachael Holehouse as the Joppa, Maryland native led all players with 28 digs. Faith Rohn chipped in 15 digs while sophomore Susie Forbes put together a strong match with a team-best three service aces and 13 digs.

Emma Ballantyne and Ragland paced the blocking efforts of the ‘Fish by accumulating eight and six block assists respectively as part of a 24-block team performance.

PBA will now return back to West Palm Beach where they will begin preparing for next weekend’s trip that will take them to Aiken, S.C. where they will play four matches at the University of South Carolina-Aiken Invitational.
