Box Score DAVIE, Fla. – No. 17 Palm Beach Atlantic won their seventh straight match on Tuesday evening, defeating Nova Southeastern in 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) at the NSU Arena at The Don Taft University Center. PBA has won 11 straight sets during their win streak.
The Sailfish (10-2) found themselves trailing early in both the first and second sets before pulling away. A 9-1 run in the first turned a one point deficit into a 14-7 lead as the ‘Fish hit .241 in the set. Both Faith and Ally Rohn recorded three kills in the set as Emma Ballantyne and Sarah Ragland tallied two.
In the second set it was the Sailfish defense that helped lead the rally. PBA trailed 5-4 before scoring four straight to take the lead but Nova rallied, tying the match at 16-16. From that point the ‘Fish scored nine of the final 10 points including four points off blocks. Stephany Brown recorded three of her match-high six block assists during the stretch and finished with five in the set. Sarah Ragland was in on two of the blocks, finishing with four block assists in the set. PBA totaled 12 of their 19 block assists in the second set.
Once the ‘Fish grabbed the second set in dominating fashion, they rolled through the Sharks in the third, racking up 20 kills in the process. Faith Rohn had nine by herself as the team hit .447. Eight players recorded a kill in the set including five by Ally Rohn.
Faith led all players with 14 kills on the night, hitting .353, adding six digs. She also had three service aces. Ally Rohn finished with eight kills, 14 assists and four digs. Alexandra Roberts led the Sailfish with 15 assists.
The offense finished with a .268 attack percentage but were carried through a .067 attack in the second set by their defense. Seven players recorded a block assist in the match led by Brown’s six. Ragland and Emma Ballantyne added four each with Abby Palkert adding two in the third set. The Rohns each had one as did Maddie Span. Rachael Holehouse led all players with 13 digs while Susie Forbes added nine.
The ‘Fish have won eight straight in the series against Nova including all 24 sets during that span. These two teams will meet again at Rubin Arena on Nov. 3.
PBA will travel to No. 2 Tampa on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s NCAA South Region Championship. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
