Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 16 Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball extended their winning streak to six on Saturday, sweeping Saint Leo University 25-17, 25-15, 25-21. The Sailfish improved to 9-2 on the season while the Lions fall to 6-5.
PBA didn’t trail until the third set in securing their second straight sweep on Saturday night. The Lions finally got the lead in the third set at 18-17 and after a kill by Saint Leo’s Anna Siruckova made it 19-17 the ‘Fish bounced back to take the next five points and a 22-19 lead. Sarah Ragland was big in that rally with two blocks and a kill.
After a tough offensive night on Friday, PBA bounced back with a strong .275 attack in set one on Saturday. The ‘Fish hit even better in the second at .298 and finished the match at .231 while the Lions came in at a .134 clip overall.
Ally Rohn led the team with 12 kills and including five in the second set where the ‘Fish tallied 18 of their 41 kills on the night. She also tallied 13 digs and nine assists. Faith Rohn added 11 kills on 44 swings with just two errors for PBA while also recording 10 digs.
Jen Cook came off the bench and recorded nine kills on 21 attacks, hitting at a .286 clip. The freshman also recorded two block assists.
Ragland recorded eight total blocks along with four kills. The sophomore turned the match into a block party in the third with two solo blocks and three block assists. Stephany Brown added four total blocks in the match.
Senior Rachael Holehouse led the Sailfish with 18 digs and also recorded five assists and two service aces. Alexandra Roberts notched her fifth double-double of the season with 23 assists and 11 digs.
In set one the two teams essentially traded points early on but the Sailfish broke open an 11-11 tie with a 10-4 run to take a 21-15 lead and control of the set. PBA went on to score four of the final six points, taking the set on the third kill of the set by Ally Rohn.
In the second things started out in a similar fashion with a tie score at 8-8 before PBA scored four straight and seven of ten to take a 15-10 lead. Another 5-0 run later in the set pushed the lead to 22-13 as the Sailfish cruised to a set two victory on a service ace by Holehouse.
PBA is back in action on Tuesday as they head down to Davie, Fla. to play Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m.
