Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Sailfish volleyball won their fourth straight match on the season and eight straight over Barry on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Buccaneers 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18) at the Health & Sports Center.
PBA improved to 7-2 with the win while Barry dropped to 2-3. The ‘Fish hit over .300 in sets three and four while struggling to a .045 attack in set two. PBA hit .200 for the match while the Buccaneers hit just .156 despite a .325 clip in the third set.
The Rohn sisters again paced the team with 24 combined kills but the Sailfish block was key on this day as the team totaled 16.5 blocks. Sarah Ragland led the team with nine total blocks and also added eight kills. Emma Ballantyne added seven blocks and nine kills while hitting a team-high .333 for the match.
Ally Rohn recorded her second straight triple-double and fourth of the season with 11 kills, 17 digs and 22 assists. Her sister Faith notched her fifth double-double of the season with team-highs 13 kills and 18 digs. Alexandra Roberts also recorded her second straight double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs. Rachael Holehouse tallied 15 digs while Moriah Jones chipped in with 12.
The Sailfish led 18-14 in the first before Barry scored three of four to pull to within 19-17 but the Sailfish responded with a kill from Ragland and an ace from Ally Rohn. PBA pushed the margin to five at 24-19 before Barry scored three straight to close to 24-22 before Faith Rohn ended the set with her fifth kill of the set.
The ‘Fish jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the second but Barry scored five straight and took an 11-9 lead. The Buccaneers pushed the lead out to 17-12 before PBA closed to within one. Barry slowly worked their way to set point at 24-19 before the Sailfish scored four straight to make it 24-23. A kill from Kaitlin Drake of Barry ended the set and tied the match 1-1.
In the third PBA rattled off six straight to take a 10-7 lead after trailing 7-4 early in the set. They pushed the lead to 20-15 before Barry rallied and closed to 21-20. The ‘Fish closed the set with four of the final six points including the final point, a solo block by Emma Ballantyne.
The ‘Fish distanced themselves a bit in the fourth, jumping out to a 5-1 lead and holding the lead until the finish as Ally Rohn recorded kills on the final two points.
Seven different players recorded a block in the match led by Ragland’s nine and Emma Ballantyne’s six assisted and one solo. Faith Rohn added five assisted blocks while Stephany Brown and Ally Rohn each had four.
The ‘Fish will open up their home schedule on Friday, Sept. 25 as they host Eckerd College at 7 p.m.
