BOCA RATON, Fla. – No. 17 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball overcame a first set loss to defeat Lynn University 3-1 on Friday night in the de Hornle Center before a capacity crowd. The ‘Fish dropped the first set 22-25 before rebounding to win the next three 25-29, 29-27, 25-20.

Faith Rohn racked up 21 kills to lead all players and hit .259 for the match as the Sailfish (6-2) overcame a .062 attack in set one to hit .187 for the match. Rohn started slow like the rest of the team in the first set with just three kills but the senior turned it on from there, tallying six kills in each of the final three sets. She also recorded 12 digs to notch her fourth double-double of the year.

Not to be outdone, Ally Rohn put up 13 kills, 19 assists and 12 digs to record her third triple-double of the season. The Cedar Lake, Ind. Sisters combined for 34 of the team’s 53 kills in the match and had 11 of the team’s 15 kills in the second set.

Alexandra Roberts also got in on the action with her third double-double of the year, posting team-highs in assists (21) and digs (20). Emma Ballantyne finished with eight kills, three aces and four block assists. Sarah Ragland tallied six assisted and one solo block to go along with six kills. Rachael Holehouse added 16 digs and six assists.

The Sailfish struggled out of the gate, hitting just .062 in the first set. PBA led 15-10 in that set before the Fighting Knights quickly tied it at 16-16. It was tied again at 20-20 before Lynn scored five of the final seven points to take the set and the upper hand in the match.

PBA fought back in the second, taking seven of the first eight points and opening a 16-9 lead. The ‘Fish hit .316, easily the best on the night. They also tallied a match-high 15 kills.

Lynn recorded 20 kills in the third set but it wasn’t enough as the Sailfish tallied five blocks and the Fighting Knights finished with 10 attack errors in the set. PBA led 11-7 but Lynn went on an 8-3 run to take a 15-14 lead.

The ‘Fish led 23-22 before back-to-back attack errors brought Lynn within a point of taking a 2-1 advantage. After a timeout by PBA, Lynn’s Jayden Davis served the ball long to tie the match at 24-24. Lynn had set point on three more occasions but the Sailfish hung in to rally, first a kill by Sarah Ragland to bring it to 25-25 and then a pair of kills by Faith Rohn as PBA trailed 26-25 and 27-26.  Two attack errors by the Fighting Knights gave PBA the victory.

The fourth set saw the ‘Fish start flat once again as Lynn raced to a 7-0 lead. After PBA called their second timeout of the set at 9-1 the ‘Fish reeled off three straight points and took eight of nine overall to pull back within one at 10-9.  PBA outscored Lynn 24-11 after that 9-1 start thanks in part to a .235 attack. Emma Ballantyne added three kills and two service aces.

The victory over Lynn is the fifth straight in the series after the Sailfish swept the season series in 2013 and 2014. PBA will go for the sweep again on Oct. 27 as the Fighting Knights make a trip to Rubin Arena.

The Sailfish are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Barry University for a 4 p.m. first serve.
