No. 17 'Fish Win Sixth Straight, Defeat Barry in Straight Sets

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 17 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball continued their winning ways on Tuesday, knocking off Barry in straight sets to move their winning streak to six straight. The Sailfish have won 15 straight sets during the streak.

The Sailfish (16-3) were led offensively by Faith Rohn who came out swinging hard in the first set, picking up six of her match-high 13 kills in the opener. After a slow start in the opening frame, the Sailfish went on to take the set 25-18 in what turned out to be the closest set on the night. The ‘Fish trailed 10-5 early on but fought back to tie it at 12-12 before seizing the lead with a five-point run to make it 18-13. That run was part of a bigger 9-1 run for the ‘Fish.

Rohn added four kills in the second set as she was joined by her sister, Ally, who had three kills in the set. Ally also picked up seven of her 13 digs in the middle frame. She finished with seven kills and 17 assists, good for her team-leading 14th double-double of the year.

The ‘Fish started out hot in the second set, taking a commanding 11-3 lead and pushing the margin to 13 at 20-7 on a kill by Faith Rohn. Barry (8-7) came back late to make it closer, winning six of seven before the Sailfish took the final two points to win 25-15.

A similar story unfolded in the third as PBA jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead and saw the lead swell to 19-4 as the team took 14 of 15 points. This time, however, the Bucs were unable to muster any kind of comeback, falling 25-9.

Emma Ballantyne collected four of her nine kills in the final set. Sarah Ragland and Faith Rohn each added three in the set as Ragland finished with six kills. Ragland also collected a block assist to give her 200 career blocks as just a sophomore. Ballantyne finished the match with three block assists while Abby Palkert added two to go with four kills.

Rachael Holehouse led the defense with 19 digs and also added four service aces as the team collected six on the night. Alexandra Roberts led all players with 19 assists and also added nine digs.

The Sailfish hit .325 with 46 kills and eight errors on 117 attacks. The Bucs were led by Eva Raat who had nine of the team’s 27 kills. Barry hit .093 for the match with 27 kills and 16 errors on 118 attacks.

The ‘Fish will look to match their season-long seven-match winning streak on Friday as they host Florida Tech at 7 p.m. They will also welcome in No. 15 Florida Southern on Saturday at 4 p.m.
