Volleyball Silences Sharks on the Road

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic defeated Nova Southeastern 3-1 on Saturday, winning 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20 at Rick Case Arena.

The Sailfish hit .259 with 57 kills while holding NSU to a .156 attack percentage and 43 kills. After dropping the third set, the Sailfish took the lead in the fourth after trailing by one and closed out the match to snap a five-game skid.

Sydney Corbett led the Sailfish with 18 kills, nine digs and one ace. Juliana Imbuzeiro recorded 32 assists and added eight digs. Sofia Augusto collected 24 digs, eight assists and two aces, while Leah Burlison posted nine kills on a scorching .667 hitting percentage. Brighten Sedmack achieved a season-high 11 digs, and Simi Kapustova hit an efficient, season-high .583.

"Very proud of our team getting a road win in league play," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "Sydney was amazing today, leading the way in every aspect of the match for our team. Sofia played great again and Juliana had her best match of the year today. Grateful for a whole week of practice and another road opportunity next week!"

The Sailfish broke a 19-19 tie with six straight points to take the first set 25-19. Nae Jordan started the closing stretch with a kill, and Jess Horn served out the set with an ace while also assisting kills by Burlison and Corbett.

Kaelynn Sims' kill broke a 7-7 tie for the 'Fish, who used service pressure to pull away in the second set. Horn added an ace in a short burst to 10-7, and Sedmack followed with an ace and three straight Sailfish kills that pushed the score to 15-8. The Sailfish later scored four straight points on Sydney Corbett's serve and closed the set on Nae Jordan's kill for a 25-15 win.

The Sailfish pushed into a 21-18 lead in the third set, with Corbett recording a kill at 18-17 and later adding an ace for the three-point cushion. After a Sharks timeout, NSU answered by scoring the final seven points, turning the Sailfish's late advantage into a 25-21 set loss.

The Sailfish answered a 14-13 deficit in the fourth set by moving in front 18-15, with Corbett and Kapustova supplying kills during the push. The Sailfish kept the margin from there, getting a Nae Jordan kill and a Sedmack service ace before closing the set on a block by Burlison and Kaelynn Sims for a 25-20 finish.

Up next, the Sailfish visit Saint Leo on Friday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. in Saint Leo, Florida.
