"We played a really good match tonight in sets one, two and four," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "Anytime you can get a win on the road in our conference it's a big deal. I thought Nae and Kaelynn really set the tone for us early as Saint Leo loaded up on Sydney, and their ability score points put Syd in a great position later. Jess Horn earned her first double-double of the season and is really doing a ton of heavy lifting for us. Looking forward to another great opportunity tomorrow at Eckerd."
The Sailfish turned an 18-14 edge into a 25-15 first-set win by claiming seven of the final eight rallies.
Brighten Sedmack's serve helped produce four straight points in that closing stretch, with
Leah Burlison, Corbett and Sims supplying kills. Corbett finished the set with the final kill, assisted by
Lexi Berry.
After Saint Leo went ahead 6-5, the 'Fish answered with
Sydney Corbett's kill from Horn and
Brighten Sedmack's ace to move in front 7-6. The Sailfish kept adding points through kills from Burlison,
Simi Kapustova,
Nae Jordan and Sims, then closed the set 25-13.
The 'Fish built a 5-1 start behind
Simi Kapustova's block on Gina Stavile and
Sydney Corbett's ace, but Saint Leo erased it and moved in front 9-6. The Sailfish pulled even at 12-12 on a Kapustova kill and a block by
Ava McIntyre and Kapustova, but Saint Leo moved back ahead and finished the set 25-20.
