CLEARWATER, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s soccer team made easy work of the Clearwater Christian College Cougars on a drizzly Saturday night across the state as they earned an 8-0 win on the road. Palm Beach Atlantic tallied five second-half goals including three from Bruno Pietrobelli as the full traveling roster received playing time in the team’s final regular season match.
The Sailfish (8-6-3) and Cougars battled against mother nature all evening long as a perpetual rain fell throughout the evening making the conditions soggy for the players and fans alike.
Lucas Coutinho was active early on in the contest as the sophomore from Recife, Brazil scored the opening goal for the ‘Fish in the 6th minute then assisted goal No. 2 on a strike by junior Jermaine Metz in the 25th minute. Coutinho was at it again in the 32nd minute as he cashed in on a penalty kick.
Cameron Roberts connected for the first goal of the second-half followed by a Lucas DaSilva score just a minute later on a Roberts’ helper.
Pietrobelli did the rest of the offensive damage for PBA as he tallied the final three goals including two straight from long free kicks that escaped the save attempts of the CCC goalkeeper.
Steeven Raymont played the first 71 minutes in net for PBA while freshman Peter Rineer finished off the night between the pipes for PBA.
In total the Sailfish outshot the Cougars by a 21-2 final count.
PBA will now move on to the NCCAA Regional Tournament to be held next weekend in Murfressboro, North Carolina. Stay tuned to PBASailfish.com for more information on tournament seeding and game times.
