Sailfish Take Down Buccaneers In Four to Move to 18-0

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 22 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team scuffled out of the gate but recovered nicely to pound South Florida rival Barry University Wednesday evening, taking down the visiting Buccaneers 3-1 in the Rubin Arena.

PBA rallied behind Katie Ballantyne and Emma Ballantyne in the first set, with the sophomore twins pounding out 10 kills with just one error on 17 attempts. Katie finished the set with six kills while Emma had four. The defensive side of the ball was stingy as well, with the front line combining for seven total blocks.

Barry threw a counterpunch in the second set, attacking at a .306 mark while holding the Sailfish to a meager .091 percentage. Palm Beach Atlantic managed just eight kills and had four errors.

With the match tied 1-1, the Sailfish came out of the break on a mission. Not only did they hold the Buccaneers to a measly .043 attack percentage from the floor, but they hit an astonishing .526 (11 kills, one error, 19 total attacks). PBA also served up four aces in the set, two of which came from senior Melissa Buckingham.

In the fourth and final set, Palm Beach Atlantic jumped ahead to a 6-1 lead to start the match and never looked back. Junior Faith Rohn pounded out five of her nine kills in the set, while Emma Ballantyne added four more to her total.

Emma ended up leading the way against Barry for the second time this season, backing up her 11 kill performance earlier in the season with a 12 kill on 24 attack showing tonight. The sophomore middle blocker also added eight total blocks (1 solo, 7 assist) and had two service aces. Katie Ballantyne finished tied with Rohn with nine kills, while Sarah Ragland added seven kills and five total blocks.

PBA finished the match with 22 total blocks and three solo from Emma Ballantyne, Ragland and Becca Acevedo.

Acevedo finished the match with 43 assists and four blocks, including one solo block. Rohn was joined by Rachael Holehouse in double-digit digs with 13 and 11 respectively.

The Sailfish return to action on October 11th at 10 am against Cedarville University in the opener of the Pepsi Bash at the Beach and then play host to AVCA No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit University in the marquee matchup at 6 pm.
