Volleyball Rolls Through Northwood and Comes Through with Win No. 17

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish volleyball team earned their 17th win of the season on Tuesday evening as they defeated Northwood University 3-0 at the de Hoernle Student Life Center. Palm Beach Atlantic is now 17-0 on the season as they begin a busy week including a home matchup on Wednesday evening with Barry University at the Rubin Arena.

Palm Beach Atlantic managed to jump out to early leads in all three sets as they limited the Seahawks (10-10) to just a -.093 (18 kills, 26 errors) attacking percentage as the ‘Fish rolled to 25-7, 25-17 and 25-13 wins in the sweep.

Junior Stephany Brown led a balanced PBA attack against their cross-town rivals as she posted 11 kills. The Tampa, Fla. native did her damage on just 21 attacks for a solid .429 attacking percentage.

Backing up the solid swings of Brown was Stephanie Pingyin who delivered all six of her kills in the second set while freshman Sarah Ragland and junior Faith Rohn each chipped in five kills.

Senior Becca Acevedo led the offense in her normal fashion as the Westminster Christian grad dished out 31 assists and added four digs to aid the cause. Fellow senior Melissa Buckingham provided solid play from the back-row with 11 digs while Rachael Holehouse contributed seven digs.

Rohn led a strong PBA serving effort with three aces from the service line. Ragland led the blocking efforts up front for the ‘Fish with six block assists as PBA totaled 18 total block assists.

The No. 22-ranked team in Division II according to the most recent AVCA national poll, PBA will be back in action tomorrow night beginning with a 7 pm first serve versus Barry.
