No. 18 Sailfish Finish Busy Week With 3-0 Sweep Of Georgia College

Box Score

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic got a near-perfect performance from freshman Abby Palkert and contributions from every part of their team as they swept Georgia College and State University at the Flagler College on Saturday afternoon.

Palkert, the Excelsior, Minnesota native, finished the game 10-for-11 in kills with no errors for a .909 attack percentage. She also chipped in two block assists. Fellow rookie Stephanie Pingyin contributed nine kills and a block assist. The kill totals for both freshman were career-highs.

PBA jumped ahead right away in the first set, leading by as many as 19-9 before letting off the brakes a bit towards the end. Georgia College made a slight run as the Sailfish reserves hit the floor, but Palm Beach Atlantic came away with the 25-18 opening set victory.

After a comfortable first game, the Bobcats turned up the intensity and gave PBA all they could handle the rest of the way. The second set went in favor of the ‘Fish by another 25-18 score, but the seven point margin at the end of the game was the most the Sailfish managed in the set.

Set three was the biggest challenge for Palm Beach Atlantic, even after jumping ahead to a 5-1 advantage. As the set went on, Georgia College got more comfortable and even came out to a 23-21 lead in the waning moments of the match. Even facing set-point at 25-24 the Sailfish didn’t back down, scoring the next three points thanks to consecutive kills from Faith Rohn and a match-winning block from Becca Acevedo and Stephanie Pingyin.

Joining Palkert and Pingyin on the offensive attack for the evening was Katie Ballantyne and Emma Ballantyne, who finished with eight and seven kills respectively. Acevedo finished with a match-high 44 assists, which was also her season-best for a three-set match. Libero Rachael Holehouse finished with 12 digs without playing in the final set.

Palm Beach Atlantic finished the busiest week of their season with a strong 5-1 record and will enjoy a few days off before welcoming Palm Beach County rival Lynn University to the Rubin Arena on October 22nd at 7 pm.
