OVIEDO, Fla. – Playing for the second straight night, Palm Beach Atlantic squared off with the University of West Alabama at the Master’s Academy and took down the Tigers in three sets on Thursday night.
PBA came out firing on all cylinders to open up the match, hitting .448 from the floor as a team behind strong performances once again from Faith Rohn and Emma Ballantyne, who had five and four kills in the opening set. The Sailfish cruised to a 25-16 opening set victory and would never look back.
Set two was more of the same for Palm Beach Atlantic, riding seven kills from Rohn and Katie Ballantyne combined with a strong blocking presence to a 25-19 win. The ‘Fish got three blocks form Rohn and two from Emma Ballantyne, while Stephany Brown, Kattie Ballantyne and Abby Palkert each added one as well.
The final set of the night continued in dominating fashion for PBA, as they overcame an early deficit to put UWA away with a 25-18 score. Rachael Holehouse was doing her part to make life difficult for the Tigers, digging up 10 of her match-high 19 digs in the third frame alone.
Palm Beach Atlantic held West Alabama at bay on their attacks, never letting UWA hit higher than .143 in the match. The Sailfish had 14 total blocks and forced 19 Tigers errors.
Rohn led the way with 12 kills for the game while Emma Ballantyne and Katie Ballantyne each added nine. Palkert finished the game with five total blocks (1 solo, 4 assist) and four kills, while setter Becca Acevedo finished the match with 36 assists.
PBA finishes their busiest stretch of the season with a single match against Georgia College at Flagler College on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
