MELBOURNE, Fla. – Continuing their busiest stretch of the season, Palm Beach Atlantic’s volleyball squad traveled to Florida Tech and bounced back in a big way against the Panthers, sweeping the hosts 3-0 in the Clemente Center on Wednesday night.
Faith Rohn and Stephany Brown helped the Sailfish jump out to an early lead over the Panthers, combining for nine kills with just three errors in the opening set. Setter Becca Acevedo dished out 16 of her 38 assists and libero Rachael Holehouse put up 10 of her 17 digs in the first frame. PBA rolled to a 25-16 victory and would continue to play strong through the entire match.
After the first set it was Emma Ballantyne who kicked her game up a notch for the ‘Fish, putting down four kills in six attempts without an error and also assisting on two blocks. Even though Palm Beach Atlantic would hit just .132 as a team from the floor they were able to cruise to a 25-19 set win.
The final set of the match belonged to Ballantyne again, as she crushed five more kills and added two more block assists. PBA’s attack percentage was merely average at .222, but the combination of strong defense and timely points helped the Sailfish to a 25-20 set win and match victory.
Rohn’s 13 kills led the way for Palm Beach Atlantic, with Emma Ballantyne right behind her with 12. Faith ended the night with 12 digs and two aces as well, while Emma added four total blocks to her kill total. Junior Stephany Brown and freshman Abby Palkert each added six kills in the game, with Brown also chipping in three block assist.
PBA picked apart the FIT serve-receive, getting eight aces in the match. Melissa Buckingham led the way with three, while Rohn and Holehouse added two and Lauren Alberti also added one. Holehouse and Alberti added double-digit digs to their nights, with 17 and 10 respectively.
There’s another quick turnaround for Palm Beach Atlantic as they return to action Thursday night at 7:30 pm taking on the University of West Alabama at the Master’s Academy in Orlando.
