MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Although it would take a roller coaster third set effort the Sailfish volleyball team was able to push through for a 3-0 win on Friday as they knocked off Barry University for the team’s tenth victory of the season. The efforts by PBA for a quick three-set sweep were nearly squelched by the Bucs however a resilient effort by the Blue and White down the stretch ended any BU hopes for an upset.

The first two sets were nearly all Palm Beach Atlantic (10-1) as they rolled to a pair of lop-sided losses as the ‘Fish posted wins of 25-14 and 25-16 to move ahead 2-0.

After the break the Bucs (4-3) would find a renewed energy while their bigger front-line block would prove to be effective. In the end the Sailfish would dig down deep as they came away with a hard-fought 31-29 third set win to close out the sweep over Barry before a raucous home crowd at the Health and Sports Center.

A number of PBA players came away with big nights but it was the timely hitting of junior Brytney Annis which stood out the most. The former Lake Worth Christian standout connected for a superb .400 hitting percentage while knocking down five key kills in only 10 attacks.

Adding to the mix of dominant performances were the strong hitting efforts of sophomores Faith Rohn and Stephany Brown and freshman Emma Ballantyne. Rohn drilled home 17 kills in just about every way imaginable including a number of big-hits from the back row while Brown and Ballantyne each added in seven kills.

The ‘Fish connected for a team hitting percentage of .224 for the night while limiting BU to only a .089 team hitting percentage and just 28 kills.

Juniors Becca Acevedo and Melissa Buckingham continued their steady play from the all-important setter and libero positions with Acevedo dishing out 39 assists in her hometown of Miami while Buckingham did her usual good work on defense with a match-high 18 digs.

Adding to the solid defensive efforts were Rachael Holehouse with 12 digs and Rohn adding in 11 digs as well.

Palm Beach Atlantic will have the remaining part of the weekend off from game action with their second home match of the season on tap for Tuesday, Sept. 24th. PBA will host Rollins (Fla.) College for a 7 pm showdown at the Rubin Arena.
