WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- After dropping back-to-back regular season matches over the past two weeks for the first time since the 2010 season a determined Sailfish volleyball team made it a point to not let Southeastern University make it three in a row on Friday night. The ‘Fish proved to be the superior team despite a scrappy defensive effort from the Fire as Palm Beach Atlantic cruised to a 3-0 sweep to improve their season record to 11-3.

The home win sets the stage for an important NCAA South Region battle set to take place against Florida Southern College on Tuesday, Oct. 8th at 7 pm in Lakeland, Fla. The Sailfish and Moccasins have not met since PBA was a NCAA-provisional institution during the 2006 season.

Friday night’s win matched the big-hitting attack of the Sailfish (11-3) versus a resilient Southeastern (12-10) defensive effort all night long as the Fire consistently kept rallies alive with their backrow digs.

In the end however it would be the ‘Fish talent that would shine through as they earned the 3-0 sweep on game scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14.

Sophomore Faith Rohn and senior Christina Alessi led the way for PBA on the night as Rohn collected match-high honors of 14 kills (.220 attacking percentage) while Alessi continues to work her way back to old-form as she put home 13 kills on only 24 attacks (.417 attacking percentage). The only senior on this year’s Sailfish squad, Christina also celebrated her birthday with a pregame celebration from her teammates and coaching staff.

Juniors Melissa Buckingham and Becca Acevedo came away with solid efforts at the libero and setter positions respectively as Buckingham delivered a match-best 23 digs while Acevedo dished out 36 assists to guide the offense.

Rachael Holehouse continued her solid play as a defensive specialist with 13 digs to aid the PBA defensive prowess as they limited Southeastern to just a .062 attacking percentage. The defensive efforts at the net were also superb with Alessi and Stephany Brown each collecting six block assists.

Brianna Lakman led Southeastern with seven kills while setter Alyssa Prescott finished with a double-double of 22 assists and 13 digs.
