WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish volleyball team continued their torrid month of October on Tuesday evening by defeating Florida Tech 3-1 in front of a pink-colored crowd as the ‘Fish hosted their annual Pink Night in support of Breast Cancer awareness. After two relatively easy wins in the first two sets the Sailfish shook off a solid Panthers comeback effort and defeated the visitors from Melbourne by a 3-1 final score.
The win seals a season sweep against Florida Tech (14-8) with just one home game left on the schedule for the young ‘Fish who now stand at 24-3 on the season. The last remaining match of the home season will take place on Nov. 5th when PBA hopes to complete a season-sweep of Barry University at 7 pm.
PBA managed wins of 25-21 and 25-18 in the first two sets while limiting FIT to just a .162 and .108 hitting percentage respectively. The tide changed in the third set however as FIT made the adjustments necessary to connect for a .367 hitting mark and claimed the 25-19 win.
The Panthers would seize the momentum and move in front in the fourth set by a 12-10 score early on as they looked to tie the match at 2-2. That wouldn’t happen however as PBA rattled off the next three points and never trailed again. Following a late run by FIT that put the score at 20-18 in favor of PBA, the ‘Fish called a timeout and then responded with a 4-0 run to put the game situation to match point.
After three straight Panther points PBA finally put them away for good on a Christina Alessi kill to close out the 25-21 fourth set victory.
