WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish volleyball team welcomed in cross-town rival Northwood University on Tuesday evening as part of Chick-fil-A Scholar-Athlete Night at the Rubin Arena. Palm Beach Atlantic dominated early and often on their way to a lopsided 3-0 sweep over Northwood that pushes the ‘Fish winning streak to 11 matches.
PBA will put their winning streak on the line again this Friday, Oct. 25th as they welcome Flagler (Fla.) College to town for a showdown at the Rubin Arena slated for 8 pm.
Sailfish head coach Bob White was able to utilize a variety of lineups on Tuesday as some of his younger players received valuable court time to aide their development. In the end the Sailfish (21-3) would tally wins of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-12 to sweep away the Seahawks (8-18).
Leading the PBA attack that connected for a season-best .494 team hitting percentage was sophomore Stephany Brown with 10 kills on only 15 attacks (.600 hitting percentage) while Elly Raush added in nine kills on 14 swings (.571 hitting percentage).
The very balanced team effort also included strong showings from Emma Ballantyne (seven kills), Christina Alessi (six kills), Faith Rohn (six kills) and Rachael Holehouse (six kills).
Freshman Katie Ballantyne also chipped in with three kills on three swings in her one set of action.
Becca Acevedo pulled out 44 assists in the win as she set up each PBA point while Holehouse paced the defensive efforts with a team-best 10 digs.
Sydney Fish led Northwood with five kills while Nicole Papineau posted 11 assists.
