Sailfish Continue Streak as Win Over St. Thomas Marks 21st Victory in a Row

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The fans on hand Thursday evening for Palm Beach Atlantic’s volleyball match were treated to another strong showing by the Sailfish as they rattled off three straight victories to claim their 21st straight win of the season in a win over St. Thomas University. The Blue and White appeared in control from the onset and polished off 25-13, 25-19 and 25-21 wins over the Bobcats.

The Fish (23-2) managed a strong hitting performance as they collected a .360 team hitting percentage while limiting their opponent to only a .045 team hitting percentage.

It started from the beginning with PBA marching out to a quick 25-13 win behind a match-high .538 team hitting percentage in the opening set as the Sailfish never looked back.

Faith Rohn led all players on the night with 14 kills while doing so on just 22 attacks for a robust .591 attacking percentage. Senior Mariela Quesada reached double-digits in only 24 attacks as she produced 10 kills to go along with four service aces and three digs.

Elly Raush would fall just outside of the double-digit mark with nine kills on 15 attacks (.533 attacking perecentage) while adding in a block assist.

Becca Acevedo did the setting for the offense in the first two sets and produced 23 helpers while freshman Alex Marszalek added in 11 assists in her one set of work.

Sophomore Melissa Buckingham came away with 16 digs to lead the defensive cause while freshman Rachael Holehouse chipped in seven digs as well.

The Bobcats (7-6) were led by three players who reached eight kills each while Sydney Maynard collected 24 assists from the setter position. Both Angie Ardiles and Taylor Allgeier went for 11 digs.

The Fish will have the weekend off as they will prepare for undoubtedly their toughest test of the season when they travel on Tuesday, October 16th to square off against No. 7-ranked University of Tampa. The two top South Region teams will meet up at 7 pm.
