Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Just a few days removed from hoisting the championship trophy from the Johnson C. Smith University tournament over the weekend, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team got back to work a bit closer to home on Wednesday evening as they traveled a few short miles across town to do battle with Northwood University. A balanced attack led the Sailfish to a 3-0 win over the Seahawks as PBA improved to 6-0 while NU drops to 0-6.
Senior Lanae Robinson, who was coming off a number of memorable performances over the weekend, led the way against the Seahawks with a team-high nine kills on 15 attacks for a .467 attacking percentage.
Junior Lisa Jedlicka added in seven kills off the bench while Christina Alessi and Mariela Quesada also each turned in solid performances with six and five kills respectively. Although limited to only six attacks, freshman middle-blocker and Lake Worth Christian product Brytney Annis tallied five kills for a spectacular .833 attacking percentage.
A total of 13 players received court time in the three sets that saw the Sailfish win by the scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-17.
Freshman Melissa McPeek continued to show great promise for the future as she led all players with 13 digs while chipping in three assists. Fellow freshman Becca Acevedo contributed 22 assists and four service aces while senior Jessica Way made her first appearance of the season in the lineup by playing the third and final set as she added six assists, three digs, and two aces.
The Seahawks were limited to a .027 attacking percentage in the three games with Kara Wenz leading the way with seven kills. Christina Ruggeri added in 11 digs in the loss.
Palm Beach Atlantic will return to the practice court for tomorrow before heading west across the state to participate in the Eckerd College Classic Tournament this weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Fish will play two matches on Friday, September 9th against the University of North Carolina-Pembroke and the host Eckerd Tritons. They will take on Millersville University on Saturday.
