Box Score 3 CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team opened up the 2011 season in style over Friday and Saturday by sweeping five matches at the Johnson C. Smith University Volleyball Tournament in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. The Fish did not drop a set over the course of their five matches while defeating Brevard College in the championship match on Saturday evening.
After taking down Assumption University and Fayetteville State University on Friday, the Sailfish (5-0) were back at it on Saturday by defeating host JCSU and Johnson and Wales University (N.C.) by identical 3-0 scores. These victories secured PBA a spot in the championship match where they defeated Brevard 3-0 as well to hoist the tournament championship trophy.

Continuing to attack a high percentage, the Sailfish would utilize a variety of lineups on Saturday as they jumped on top of JCSU by the scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-8. Lanae Robinson backed up her solid performances on Friday with another big showing in the opener on Saturday as she led all players with 11 kills while posting a terrific .533 attacking percentage.
Also making solid contributions in the win over JCSU were newcomers Lisa Jedlicka (eight kills, .500 attacking percentage) and freshman Kelsey Fox (seven kills, .636 attacking percentage) as the team combined to hit .411 against the Golden Bulls.
Freshman setter Becca Acevedo continued to dish out pass after pass as she posted 36 assists in the win. Melissa McPeek thrived at the libero position with a team-high seven digs.
PBA 3, Johnson & Wales University 0
The Fish continued their upward rise in attacking percentage in their fourth match of the tournament by hitting a ridiculous .600 as a team in the match versus JWU. The Blue and White cruised to 25-11, 25-10, and 25-11 victories in the match.
Once again using a variety of players, head coach Bob White and the Sailfish fans on hand witnessed some outstanding individual performances.
Jedlicka stepped up once again as she finished with a team-best 10 kills while doing so with an eye-popping .833 attacking percentage. Janeen McCormick was next in line in kills as she added in eight kills in only 13 attacks for a .538 attacking percentage.
Robinson dominated once again as she produced seven kills in only eight attacks (.875 attacking percentage) while Fox chipped in seven kills as well.
Acevedo once again aided the PBA attack with 36 assists while leading the team with four aces from the backline.
PBA 3, Brevard College 0 (Championship Match)
Palm Beach Atlantic ended the Johnson C. Smith Tournament the way they started it which was in dominating fashion. The Sailfish managed a .413 attacking percentage in the championship final while holding their opponent at bay to the tune of 25-14, 25-10, and 25-16 game scores.
Junior Mariela Quesada returned to the starting lineup in a big way as she produced a tournament-high 18 kills with only three hitting errors as the Costa Rica native finished the match with a .577 attacking percentage.
Quesada was complimented by a host of others as well with Alessi adding in seven kills, Robinson finishing with six kills and Jedlicka chipping in five kills. McCormick rounded out the hitting efforts of PBA with four kills.
Acevedo continued her good work at the setter position with 38 assists while adding in two service aces and two digs. Lexie Grizzle led all PBA players with seven digs while McPeek contributed six digs.
The Sailfish will be back in action on Wednesday, September 7th as they will make the short trek across town to battle Northwood University beginning at 7 pm.
