Box Score DAVIE, Fla.- The Sailfish volleyball team pushed their win streak to five matches on Wednesday evening as they swept Nova Southeastern University 3-0 at the Don Taft University Center to improve to 12-1 on the season. Palm Beach Atlantic put forth one of their more impressive offensive performances of the season as they hit .382 as a team including an outstanding individual performance from junior Mariela Quesada who dominated from the start and finished with 19 kills in the three sets.
Palm Beach Atlantic jumped out quickly on Wednesday as they hit for a .370 attacking percentage in the first set and cruised to a 25-12 opening win. Set two saw both teams struggle at times with their serve as the score stood at 13-13 through the middle stages of the game. The Fish got in gear however over the next several opportunities as they won seven of the next nine points to move more comfortably in front by a 20-15 score.
Now with a cushion they would close things out in set number two as PBA collected the 25-17 win.
Set three saw Palm Beach Atlantic put together their most impressive attacking percentage of the night with an eye-popping .516 percentage including 17 kills and only one hitting error over the course of 31 total attacks. This type of hitting performance led the Fish to an easy 25-14 win for the 3-0 sweep.
Quesada was not only powerful but efficient as she finished with 19 kills and just one error in only 30 attacks. This performance registered the San Jose, Costa Rica native with a .600 attacking percentage which led all players.
Backing up Quesada’s performance were several other key performers as the Fish relied on only five players who produced kills on the night. Lisa Jedlicka finished with eight kills (.316 attacking percentage) while Christina Alessi and Lanae Robinson each produced solid nights also with seven and six kills respectively.
Freshman setter Becca Acevedo produced 30 assists in the win while freshman libero Melissa McPeek was active throughout the night as she led all players with 14 digs while adding in a career-high 10 assists.
Quesada added in nine digs as part of a strong backrow presence for head coach Bob White’s squad on the night that limited the Sharks to just a .023 attacking percentage.
NSU was led by three players who posted five kills each while libero Paige Boivin led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Palm Beach Atlantic will have a tough task on their hands next time out as they will travel to the University of Tampa on Tuesday, October 4th for a 7 pm match against the #2-ranked Spartans. No badges are expected to be required.
