Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic University sophomore striker Kenny Hogg is making quite a name for himself in the NCAA South Region. The Irvine, Scotland native backed up his two goal performance on Tuesday against Florida Southern College with four more scores on Saturday evening at fellow SSC-foe Eckerd College as PBA cruised to a 5-2 win.
Hogg would score twice in each half of Saturday’s contest at Eckerd (5-3) as the Sailfish push their record above .500 at 4-3 on the season with their big wins this week against Florida Southern and the Tritons. The win over Eckerd is their third straight in the series including the second time in three years where the Fish have claimed victory in St. Petersburg.
The Fish got on the board early with a score by Hogg as junior Lewis Thompson collected the assist just before the 6th minute of the contest.
The score would move to 2-0 in favor of the Fish when freshman AJ Black delivered a corner kick into the box in the 24th minute where junior Gabe Carneiro headed the ball home for his first goal of the season.
Just a minute later perhaps the frustrations of falling behind early caught up with the Tritons and in particular EC junior Matt Duffy as delivered a questionable foul near the sideline that caused the player to be issued a red car and removed from the game.
Now down a man for the remainder of the match, the Tritons would not quit as they drew closer when Jack Walsh found Anthony Arico for a score in the 38th minute to draw within one goal at 2-1.
Looking to answer before the halftime horn sounded, Black delivered his second assist of the match when he found Hogg in the open field for an easy score and a 3-1 PBA lead as the goal came under a minute of the period ending.
Soon after the second half began Hogg was still hungry for goals as he score two more times within the first 12 minutes of the half first on an unassisted strike in the 52nd minute and against after a costly turnover in the EC box led Carneiro to find Hogg for the score.
The Tritons added one final goal on a corner kick in the 78th minute to round out the score at 5-2.
Jonathan Strunk played just over 72 minutes in goal for PBA and made seven saves while allowing one goal. Sophomore Steven Bush played the final 18 minutes while allowing one score.
A match certainly not short on offensive opportunities, the two teams combined for 32 shots with Palm Beach Atlantic holding the slight edge at 17-15 including a 9-6 advantage in the second-half. Eckerd produced 10 corner kick tries while PBA managed seven corners of their own.
Now back moving in a positive direction after a three-match losing streak entering this week, the Sailfish will have a week of rest before taking on Francis Marion University on the road to begin the month of October. The Fish will take on FMU on Saturday, October 1st at 3 pm in Florence, S.C.
