Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.- One night after a thrilling yet exhausting five set win over Barry University at home, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team had to travel across the state on Saturday for a mid-afternoon matchup with Southeastern University. Once again having the luxury of utilizing his deep bench, head coach Bob White saw court time for nearly every player as the Fish cruised to a 3-0 sweep.
The Sailfish improve their record to 24-3 on the season with one final regular season match remaining against Warner University on Wednesday, November 9th at 7 pm in the Rubin Arena.
Junior Mariela Quesada rebounded from a down night just 24 hours earlier with a big 17-kill performance as she paced the team’s hitting efforts in taking down the Fire (12-18) by the scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-13.
Overall the Sailfish would hit as team very well as they managed a .354 team hitting percentage while limiting their opponent to only a .212 hitting percentage.
Following Quesada’s solid performance was a number of other PBA players who registered solid afternoon showings despite the quick turnaround from last night’s marathon five-set win over the Bucs.
Sophomore Christina Alessi picked up where she left off from last night with eight more kills and only one hitting error while freshman Kelsey Fox chipped in with seven kills of her own off the PBA bench.
Freshman Anna Hays and senior Lanae Robinson each topped the .600 hitting percentage mark in the match with both totaling an efficient four kills.
Becca Acevedo distributed most of the assists on the afternoon as she finished with 33 assists in the win while senior Jessica Way chipped in with seven assists.
Allie Warren and Melissa McPeek continued to lead the PBA defensive effort with 14 and 13 digs respectively.
Southeastern was led by Karina Mambuca’s eight kill performance.
