Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Concluding what was a solid two day event in the NCCAA South Regional Tournament, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team claimed hold to their second straight Region title by defeating No. 2 seed- Southern Wesleyan University in three sets. The Fish improve to 27-3 on the season as they clinched an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida on Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
The Warriors provided the Sailfish with a solid challenge for the second straight year in the South Regional final however the Fish would utilize their home court advantage and push through for set victories of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-13.
Junior Mariela Quesada garnered All-Region recognition following the match while proving her worth during the three sets as she hammered home 22 kills to lead all players while registering an impressive .606 attacking percentage.
Freshman Anna Hays also showed why she has a bright future ahead with nine kills off the bench on 19 attacks (.376 attacking percentage) while sophomore Christina Alessi added in five kills.
Becca Acevedo joined Quesada on the All-Region First team and she put together a solid performance of 38 assists while adding in three service aces and four digs.
Allie Warren managed a match-high 18 digs in a solid PBA defensive effort that saw SWU limited to a .169 overall attacking percentage.
SWU was paced by six kills from Tierza Rangel while setter Hayley Hoover dished out 19 assists in the loss.
