WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team concluded play on Saturday afternoon in the Rubin Arena by taking two wins over the likes of Davis & Elkins College and Johnson C. Smith University as the team wrapped up hosting the annual Pepsi Bash at the Beach Tournament. The pair of victories pushes PBA’s season record to 16-2 while keeping their home record at a perfect 7-0.

Upon the conclusion of the tournament the Sailfish had three standout players named to the All-Tournament team including senior Lanae Robinson, junior Mariela Quesada, and freshman Melissa McPeek. The trio were part of a collective team effort that led the Fish to four dominating wins in the tournament while dropping only one set in the process.

Playing their first match of the day at 10 am in the Mahoney Gymnasium the Fish would shake off any potential rust from an earlier than typical start time by cruising to three victories over the Senators. The stingy Sailfish defense limited their opponent to just a .026 team attacking percentage while claiming 25-13, 25-11, and 25-19 wins.

Utilizing a balanced offensive effort the Fish were led by Quesada’s 11 kills (.476 attacking percentage) while Robinson and fellow senior Janeen McCormick chipped in with eight and seven kills respectively. McCormick did not have a hitting error in 13 total attacks for a team-best .538 attacking percentage.

Freshman Becca Acevedo and senior Jessica Way split the setting duties for PBA with Acevedo finishing with 23 assists and four service aces while Way chipped in 12 assists of her own.

Quesada narrowly missed a double-double with a team-high nine digs.

Nicole Miller led the way for D&E with eight kills.

After visiting Charlotte, North Carolina over Labor Day weekend to participate in the JCSU Tournament, the Sailfish welcomed in the Golden Bulls to the Pepsi Bash at the Beach Tournament this weekend.

After a solid showing over the weekend by his first string, head coach Bob White opted to insert more of his talented and deep bench that included as many as five freshmen against JCSU on the court at one time. Despite their inexperience, the young group would rise to occasion and produce a three-set sweep to the tune of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-8 victories.

Freshman Kelsey Fox led all players with 11 kills (.375 attacking percentage) while Shenise Howard was next in line with nine kills in just 16 attacks for an outstanding .562 attacking percentage.

Robinson proved dominant once again with eight kills in only 10 attacks while another freshman Anna Hays chipped in six kills and four service aces.

McPeek closed out her solid tournament showing by collecting 23 digs and a pair of service aces as the team’s starting libero.

Acevedo and Way once again split the work of the setter position with Acevedo tallying 23 assists and Way managing 18 assists in the win.

Palm Beach Atlantic will next begin preparations for a rematch with Nova Southeastern University as their next opponent. The Fish swept the Sharks in Davie just a week ago while the two teams will square off in the Rubin Arena on Wednesday, October 12th at 7 pm. Badges may be required.
