WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Less than 24 hours after being handed their first home loss of the 2011 season the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team hoped to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon as part of day of the Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic at the Rubin Arena. Squaring off against the University of Central Oklahoma, the Fish played a much better brand of volleyball on their way to 25-18, 25-14, and 25-8 wins for the 3-0 sweep.

After a back-and-forth early part of set one that actually saw the Bronchos (15-13) lead 13-9, the Sailfish (19-3) finally flexed their muscle when freshman Becca Acevedo and junior Mariela Quesada combined to serve PBA to a 10-1 run as PBA went on top by a more comfortable 19-14 score and burned both of UCO’s timeouts.

The Fish would close out the set for a 25-18 victory despite only a .059 attacking percentage in the opener.

Set two would bring the Sailfish back to their more customary attacking abilities with a team hitting percentage of .321 while limiting UCO to only a .037 team hitting percentage.

The third and final set would be PBA across the board as head coach Bob White began mixing and matching his lineup with new and fresh players . The young group limited Central Oklahoma to a negative hitting percentage of -.407 while tallying two kills and 13 hitting errors in the set that finished at 25-8.

Junior Mariela Quesada tallied double-digit kills for the 14th time this season in 18 matches played as she led all players with 12 kills while posting a .259 attacking percentage.

Backing up Quesada’s big kills were six kills by Christina Alessi and five in only nine attacks by senior Lanae Robinson.

Alessi proved to be the leader of PBA’s block party as she led all players with six block assists while Robinson chipped in four blocks as did fellow senior Janeen McCormick. In total PBA put together a team total of 19 blocks in the match.

Freshman Becca Acevedo once again managed a solid showing from the setter position with 28 assists while adding in four digs. Allie Warren led all PBA players with 13 digs while Quesada and senior Jessie Kubiak added in eight and seven digs respectively.

The Bronchos were paced by Halie Harrington who finished with five kills while Bella Romero added in 12 assists.

The Sailfish will be off from game action until Wednesday, October 26th when they will travel to Florida Tech to take on the Panthers beginning at 7 pm in Melbourne, Florida. The Fish will host Webber International University on Thursday, October 27th back in the Rubin Arena at 6 pm.
