Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team opened up the home portion of their 2010 slate in dominating form on Tuesday evening at the Rubin Arena as head coach Bob White was able to utilize nearly his full roster as the Fish pulled out a 3-0 win over the visiting Gyrenes of Ave Maria University.
Palm Beach Atlantic improved to 4-0 on the young season after their solid showing this past weekend at the Carolina Challenge on the campus of Lees-McRae College where the Fish picked up three solid wins. The Fish will now prepare for a weekend trip to Cedarville, Ohio to take part in the Cedarville University Invitational.
The Gyrenes (2-4) were limited to a -.03 hitting percentage for the match including only one kill through the first set. The Fish on the other hand were much more successful with a team hitting percentage of .325 including six players with at least four kills.
Sophomore Mariela Quesada paced the balanced attack with seven kills and only one hitting error while adding in five digs and five service aces. The middle-blocking duo of Lanae Robinson and Paige Mitchell also produced solid results with five kills each while Mitchell connected for a .714 hitting percentage for the match.
Junior setter Jessica Way and freshman Katie Lindstrom split time during the match as the young Lindstrom gained valuable game experience as she continues to develop as the team’s second option from the setter position. Way tallied 12 assists and six digs in limited duty while Lindstrom produced a career-high of 17 assists while adding in three digs and two service aces.
Allie Warren once again did a solid job from the libero position with a team-high 12 digs while Janeen McCormick and Christina Alessi tied for the team lead in blocks with two blocking assists each.
The Lady Gyrenes, an NAIA program near Fort Myers, Florida were led by Lilla Lukacs who produced eight kills while setter Megan Arago dished out 14 assists in addition to seven digs. Lukacs led the defensive effort for AMU with a match-high 14 digs.
PBA will now prepare the remainder of the week for their trip north to Ohio where they will take on four NCAA Division II opponents with two matches each on Friday and Saturday, September 10-11.Â
