LAKELAND, Fla.- Although the Southeastern University volleyball team would not go away without a fight, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball squad was able to maintain their perfect streak to start the season on Saturday morning as the Fish defeated the Fire by a 3-0 tally. The win pushes PBA to 10-0 with a number of important matches coming up over the next ten days.

Playing without starting setter Jessica Way who remained in West Palm Beach to rest a troublesome back, the Sailfish turned to freshman setter Katie Lindstrom, a product of Warner Christian. Having played most of the season as a backrow defender, Lindstrom stepped up admirably in Way’s absence by leading the team on each play. Lindstrom would finish with a career-high 44 assists while adding in six digs.

The Fish utilized a balanced hitting attack against the Fire (4-5) as the team finished with a .262 overall hitting percentage.

Junior Janeen McCormick paced the Sailfish attack with a team-high 10 kills followed closely by freshman Christina Alessi with nine kills and sophomore Mariela Quesada with eight kills on the day.

Junior Allie Warren continued to pace the Fish defensively with her work at the libero position by registering 19 digs. Freshman Lexie Grizzle came through as a backrow defender as well with a career-high 11 digs off the bench.

The Fire proved pesky throughout the match with three hitters reaching double-figures in kills. Heather Johnson led the SU efforts with a match-high of 14 kills while also leading the team with 16 digs for a solid double-double.

Casey Jensen and Christi Limpert also both added double-digit showings in kills with 11 and 10 kills respectively.

Tara McSherley did a solid job as the SU setter with 45 assists.

The Sailfish will now prepare for a pair of NCAA South Region opponents next week in welcoming in Florida Tech on Tuesday, September 21st and Lynn University on Saturday, September 25th, both to the confines of the Rubin Arena. Tuesday’s match versus the Panthers will begin at 7 p.m.
