PBA Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Southern Wesleyan

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team continued their solid work at the NCCAA National Tournament on Friday as they took down Southern Wesleyan University 3-0 as they finished their third match in the past two days with still perfect results. PBA dominated from the opening serve as they earned 25-12, 25-15, and 25-14 victories.

Having defeated SWU for the NCCAA South Region championship a few weeks ago, head coach Bob White and his team had a good understanding of the game plan going in to their match versus Southern Wesleyan. Blessed with a team hitting percentage of .229 while holding the opposition to -.07, the Fish breezed to their final pool play match to be played later today versus #1-seed Indiana Wesleyan University at 4 pm.

Sophomore Mariela Quesada continued her torrid stretch of hitting in the first three matches as she reached double-digits once again with 15 kills and only two hitting errors in 26 attacks for a .500 overall hitting percentage.

Lanae Robinson and Kristin Carroll, both Sailfish veterans, also produced solid results with eight and six kills respectively.

Jessica Way continued her all-around play as she dished out 31 assists and had eight digs in the win. Allie Warren and Quesada both reached double-figures in digs as well with 15 and 13 digs respectively.

PBA made the match versus SWU a block party as they came away with 20 total blocks, led by freshman Christina Alessi with six block assists while Janeen McCormick added in five block assists and Robinson chipped in four block assists.

The Sailfish have now solidified their chances to make the championship final four as they improved their pool play record to 3-0. Their 4 pm opponent of IWU also boasts a 3-0 record with both likely to move on to the championship round on Saturday.
