Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla.- With a number of key starters not available or sidelined with injuries, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team was forced to go on without them on Tuesday evening as they hit the road to take on a talented Saint Leo University squad. Although the Fish put forth a determined effort in game three, the Lions would hold on for a 3-0 sweep.
Now 15-5 for the season, the Sailfish were without starters Mariela Quesada and Christina Alessi while also still feeling the effects of other injuries up and down the roster. The Lions would leave no doubt in games one and two as they cruised to 25-16, 25-12 wins then fought off a late PBA comeback attempt in set number three as they battled to a 28-26 win for the match sweep.
Without some key offensive weapons in the fold, the Fish utilized a more balanced offensive attack as no player registered more than six kills. Senior Kristin Carroll led all PBA players with six kills while Janeen McCormick and Jennifer Eldridge each chipped in with five kills each.
Junior Jessica Way dished out 23 assists in the loss while junior Allie Warren led a valiant effort on defense with a solid 25 digs. Fellow junior Jessie Kubiak added 12 digs off the bench.
 SLU outside-hitter Celeste Bonter was the only player in the match to reach double-digits in kills with 10 to go along with 16 digs for a double-double. Jaclyn Mailoto led the Lions in digs with 17 while adding 26 assists.
PBA will now prepare for their busy weekend of volleyball which places the Fish in South Carolina for a tournament that has four matches slated. The Sailfish will participate in the University of South Carolina-Aiken with pre-determined matchups against teams from the Peachbelt Conference and Conference Carolinas.
